Top 75 Songs of all Time (75-16)

75. ‘Mind Playin Tricks On Me’ by Geto Boys
A meaningful song by the Geto Boys hit the charts in 1991.  Often remade and referenced to, this song is one of those smooth, slow raps that forces you to listen to the meaningful lyrics.  A story is painted through the tone and words of the Geto Boys.

74. School’s Out by Alice Cooper
The Greatest couple minutes ever invented occur when school lets out for summer.  The beginning of fun and partying.  Alice Cooper thought it was necessary to make it be known that school was out.  He made it clear in his song that school was not only out for the year, but forever.  This HARDCORE rock song was released in 1972 and openly embraced by rockers everywhere.  Now it has earned its spot as 74 in my top 75 songs of all time list.

73. A Milli by Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne is one of the best rappers out there today.  His rhymes and lines are almost unmatched and his rebellious behavior seems to only add to the hype.  Released in 2008, this fast paced rap closes in on money, money, and more money.  Disappointingly, this rap genius is attempting to rock out, which is definitely not for him.

72. Hate Me by Blue October
Clearly one of the most depressing songs of all-time, it still has the rhythm and lyrics to make the Nirvanna fans cherish it.  This song is often not broken down by listeners.  The lyrics are not heard and the broad outline of music is the only thing that is.  A man, heartbroken, shuts himself out of life completely in hope that his love will one day call.  Overall, a depressing, but essential song to music as we know it today.

71. Without Me by Eminem
The insane mind of Marshal Mathers never fails to awe fans.  His mind-blowing metaphors can make any rhyme ten times better.  In one of his most famous songs, he reflects on how boring and dull the world would be without him.  This song, from The Eminem Show, is one of the best he has ever made.  Released in 2002, fans still listen to his rightfully earned bragging.

70. Get Back by Ludacris
One of the fastest rappers in the world aside from Busta Rhyme, lets it all out in this crazy and fast paced song.  Similar to one of his songs: Move B***h, Ludacris is still telling you to stay the hell out of the way.  Released in 2004, and remixed with Sum 41, this hit will forever take its place as number 70 on my all-time list.

69. Rockstar by Nickelback
A reflection song of the good-old-days, this song tells of how good the teenage years were.  From causing trouble to first kisses, this song is accepted into the hearts of alternative/metal rock fans.  Nickelback released this hit in 2005 with Billy Gibbons of ZZ top making side comments such as “whatcha gonna do?”.

68. Beat It by Michael Jackson
Although he has never been my favorite, he holds a spot of pop inside my soul.  His unmatchable high notes and incredible dance moves make him one of the best artists ever.  His 1982 hit will forever be remembered by everyone.

67. California Love by 2Pac
2Pac is one of the most famous rap artist’s of all time.  He would have continued his legend if it weren’t for a shooting in 1996 that killed him.  His classic lyrics about the ghetto are still living today.  California Love was produced with the help of Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman in 1996.  This talented trio let everyone know that they knew how to party.

66. Back In Black by ACDC
Back in Black was some hard core head bobbing rock and roll introduced by dudes in short shorts and school uniforms.  These rockers wanted to let people know they also knew how to party and rock on.  I was surprised Wayne and Garth never rocked on to these guys.  This is one of their most popular hardcore songs released in 1980.

65. Fire Shot by Slightly Stoopid
Some people might claim that Slightly Stoopid is too new to be on a top songs list.  That’s where they’re wrong!  This smooth reggae group is great at producing smooth songs.  The rhythm that they withhold make you feel like your at the beech or something, no matter the weather.  This great song was released in 1998 and seems to be aimed at hardcore stoners but is really for anyone, even my padre.

64. How To Save a Life by The Fray
Released in 2006, this alternative genius of a song is not only catchy, but somewhat depressing.  This song came from The Fray’s debut album and reigns as their most downloaded song.  This song was written to resemble a scene in which a character is working at a camp for troubled teenagers. The troubled teen cannot be reached by anyone.  The song can pretty much be interpreted anyone you want, though.

63. Mad Season by Matchbox 20
Rob Thomas, the lead in vocals the time this song came out in 2001 is a great singer in my mind.  There is something about his vocals that make me like everyone song that Matchbox 20 put out up to about 2005.  Mad Season, a classic and title of one of their albums, was one of their best.  A song about hectic actions while keeping it mellow.  This song easily makes my Hardcore List.

62. It’s Tricky by Run DMC
It would be tricky to not put this song in my top 75 hardcore songs of all time list.  The classic beat that Run DMC puts into their songs is untouchable, as is this hit from 1987.
61. Deep Inside of You by Third Eye Blind
This early 2000’s alternative rock song is smooth in all ways.  A relationship song about love, but with the alternative regularity, it can be interpreted as just a great song.  Hardcore song from a hardcore group.

60. Insane In The Brain by Cypress Hill
What seems like one of the stupidest songs ever, you would think it has almost no meaning… and you are probably correct.  These guys are insane in the membrane and voice it through their 1993 hit.  They have some guy who raps the whole thing, and off to the side, a guy who only says “insane in the brain”.  Overall a catchy, and important part of my hardcore list.

59. Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana
More popular grunge music!  This hit from 1993 was produced by one of the most famous groups ever.  Sung by Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994, he helped to give the song the same effect that Smells Like Teen Spirit had.

58. Forgot About Dre by Dr. Dre
Featuring Eminem, this dynamic duo spits some of the best rhymes and metaphors ever heard by the human earlobes.  YES, that hardcore.  From the 2000 album of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic 2000. In this song, Dre and Eminem make sure everyone know that the king (Dre) is back to claim his title as the best and then he’s out: PEACE EVERYBODY… yup, that’s what he’s saying.

57. One by Metallica
A song about the book Johnny Got his Gun, how freakin intense can you get with a song about a man with no arms and legs, who cannot feel but only think… PRETTY FREAKIN INTENSE.  This song easily makes it within the top 75 most hardcore songs of all time.

56. Purple Kush by Living Legends
Often overlooked, this song should be considered a classic.  Party, Bacardi, and straight up smoking. I’m not for it, but this song no matter what the content, is amazing and smooth.  There’s not much else to say about it, but you have to listen to it

55. Walkin’ On the Sun by Smash Mouth
Peace, love, and whatever else this amazing song contains.  This 1997 hit by Smash Mouth is all about the hippie movement, but who cares because it is so catchy and fun to listen to. It is definitely hard core.

54. Brass Monkey by Beastie Boys
How to describe these Jewish dudes from the NYC? PAAAAARRRTTTAAYY!
This party-hungry group of guys love to rhyme and party.  This song, about an alcoholic drink, stands strong from 1987, ‘till know in my hardcore list.

53. Break Ya Neck by Busta Rhyme
I dare you to rhyme half as fast as this man.  He spins rhymes together faster than you can think.  It’s a talent that not many posses and his best song, Break Ya Neck shows us he possesses the talent.

52. Hard Out Here For a Pimp by Three Six Mafia
Another Lose Yourself... sort of.  This song came from the movie Hustle and Flow and seems to be an anthem for the ghetto, even though I do not see how it is hard for a pimp, but probably harder for “the workers”.  Anyways, this runner up to Lose Yourself definitely makes my hardcore list.

51. Blister In the Sun by The Violent Femmes
This group’s only good song, in my opinion, happens to be ranked 51 on my hardcore list.  Released in 1982, this catchy song still plays roles in pop culture today including being featured in the stupid comedy Benchwarmers.

50. What’s My Age Again by Blink 182
In the music video, the members of Blink 182 run the streets naked.  What the hell could the song possibly be about!?  How about immatureness?  Sure is; in fact, the song is about a man who despite being an adult, never actually grew up.

49. Soundtrack to my Life by Kid Cudi
A song about a mad and lost, possibly lonely man.  This song is so mellow to listen to.  It can be sad if your in the mood, or it can be just a smooth song if your happy.  Kid Cudi, a great artist in my book, deserves his spot in the most hardcore.

48. Burning Down the House by the Talking Heads
I don’t want to raise the roof, I’d rather burn the whole place down is what these hardcore partiers are telling us.  That’s pretty hardcore, no wonder this classic made the hardcore list!

47. The Real Slim Shady by Eminem
Eminem has the funniest lines ever, especially in this song.  It makes you wonder where this twisted man gets his lines from.  Whatever he thinks of, he says; whatever he says, is put into rhyme and metaphors, and this produces hits like the Real Slim Shady.  Wannabes and posers not welcome.

46. Jump On It by Sir Mix-a-lot
I would like to hear ‘jump on it’ said a couple hundred times in a song.  Well here you go… this old school song is hardcore by one of the greatest: Sir Mix-a-lot.

45. Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground
I wonder what’s in this song? Hmm, maybe sex and candy?  This is a great song by Marcy Playground that I prefer in acoustic form.  KZON used to make an acoustic CD every year.  I miss that, those were the best.

44. Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet
First of all, I hate almost all country.  But this song is so hardcore that Jimmy Buffet deserves a spot in my list.  He broke the barrier of sh**ty country songs.  This amazingly relaxed song is about relaxin’ with a drink and not caring about the worries of life… what a concept!

43. We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel
So many people, places, and events are mentioned in this collage of the Cold War that it is impossible to count them.  This meaningful song was written by one of the best, Billy Joel, who makes my hardcore list more than once.

42. Walk This Way by Run DMC and Aerosmith
This masterpiece of a song mastered the rock and hip hop blend that made this song so popular.  The two best genres clash together to rock and rhyme out.  There isn’t much to say about this song except that it is… HARDCORE.

41. Runnin’ Down a Dream by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
A 1989 rock hit, this song is often though of as a classic.  This influential song is all about chasing a dream. (OBVIOUSLY) But that is really the main focus of the song.  Still a popular song, it is still in use now in many video games and movies.

40. Ms. Jackson by OutKast
A song about problems in relationships, this ‘titular’ song was produced in 2000.  From the album, Stankonia, Andre 3000 and Big Boi Patton bring us an instant hit that forever lives in the souls of… everyone.  I’m not sure you can name a genre this group hasn’t hit besides country.  Their alternative/hip hop/ reggae style is unmatchable and these two righteous guys are now famous for it.

39. Closing Time by Semisonic
Mellow song.  Period.  From right before the change of a decade, 1999, these guys give us a song that is open to ideas.  Closing Time could have some inner meaning, or it could just be the bartender kicking some drunks out… who knows?  What I do know is that this song is definitely hardcore number thirty-nine.

38. The Joker by Steve Miller Band
Boss status song.  Warning: when listening to this song, you may be inspired to go to the beach.  A feel good song about the joker… a card maybe?  Some people call him the gangster of love.  If you sing this song, you have to be a ladies man.  Hardcore for sure.

37. Thriller by Michael Jackson
Again, not a big Michael Jackson fan, but he is a musical genius.  He made history through his music and dance moves and this music video + music combination is hardcore in itself.  Easily a classic; easily a “hardcore”.

36. Hotel California by the Eagles
‘Tis a song about drug dependence on the deep inside, or maybe just about the 70’s, but catchy and smooth to just listen to.  It is a classic that is definitely hardcore and cannot be left out of the most hardcore list.

35. War by Edwin Star
I already referenced to this song when I was talking about the most influential.  Along with most influential, I’d say that it is also hardcore.  A rebel of a song that opposes the Vietnam War deserves to be on this list.

34. Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan
Another seemingly third person rebellious song, this hit by Bob Dylan makes the hardcore list.  I have never listened to Bob Dylan much, but this one song has stuck out to me.  Dylan is one of the greatest artists of all time and that has to be respected.  Even though I do not know much of his music, this does not mean I do not think he is good.  This one classic song by him earned its way as number 34.

33. Creep by Radio Head
This is a straight up depressing song; possibly the most depressing of all time.  So depressing that this song was turned amazing.  An underlying meaning of how this man was never good enough, always a creep.  Great song despite the horrifying depressing state that it was written in.

32. Super Freak by Rick James
The greatest background beat and music ever that was later stolen by MC hammer for his hit Can’t Touch This.  The origin of it will always remain with Rick James.  Dave Chapelle made this song known to many of the younger generation, but this classic hit is well known to the ‘older’ people.

31. Stan by Eminem
Does a tear come to your eyes when your finished listening to this song?  As touching as Eminem can possibly tell such a sad story, we listen to letters to Eminem from his biggest fan (Stan) until he commits suicide.  It takes skill to write something as touching and sad as this.  You must listen to it.  It is nearly impossible to describe how hardcore this song really is.

30. I’ll Be by Edwin McCain
Possibly the greatest love song ever.  Edwin McCain gets the ladies hardcore.  How can you possibly resist the moving words of this genius love song?  I wish I were the one to come up with this song! It would solve any and every problem know to man.  Fight with your girlfriend… this song BAM! Resolved!  “I’ll be your crying shoulder” and “I’ll be the greatest fan of your life” are only several examples of  McCain’s genius kiss-ass tactics.  Don’t get me wrong, by kiss-ass, I mean GENIUS and HARDCORE.  I’m man enough to admit that I find myself singing this song sometimes.

29. I’ve Seen Better Days by Citizen King
I’m guessing it wasn’t the best day for this group when they wrote this song because everything is going wrong for them.  Moldy bread?... well that blows!  At least these guys had the great fortune to put one of the most hardcore songs ever together.

28. (reserved for best Beatle’s song)

27. Rapper’s Delight by Sugarhill Gang
The classic is the only way to describe this song.  One of the very first rap groups, Sugarhill Gang brings us this song about pretty much everything even “chicken that tastes like wood”.  It seems like anything that rhymed was put into this song.  This song is hardcore to say the least.

26. She Hates Me by Puddle of Mud
This song was already broken down earlier; so to be frank, this guy goes through a bad relationship.  To emphasize this, “She F***ing hates me” is the terminology used in the song.  If this isn’t hardcore, then I do not know what is.

25. Jumper by Third Eye Blind
Third Eye Blind is one of those groups that were talented enough to have two songs on my top hardcore songs of all-time.  This song is about someone trying to convince his friend to forget about suicide and put the past behind him.  And if you do not want to see me again I would understand.”  Anything to spare his friend’s life; a truly deep song that is produced in a seemingly light tone.

24. Fight For Your Right by Beastie Boys
The hardcore partiers are back for the second time in this list.  The partier anthem!  How can you contest with the three Jews from Brooklyn who can rhyme and have a good time.  And yes, that previous sentence did rhyme, now I only need to be Jewish and live in Brooklyn.

23. Ain’t No Sunshine by Will Young
Straight up classic.  I’m not quite sure how to interpret this song besides the fact that he is probably referring to how the mood is gloomy when his girl is away.  Casual stuff, but nevertheless, a hardcore song!

22. Hey Ya! by OutKast
Make sure you don’t forget the exclamation point!  Because this song deserves it with the positive dance mood it expresses.  Such an original title!  Every time I hear this song I find myself singing along.  Hey Yaaaaaa!

21. Lose Yourself by Eminem
Despite the fact that I am an Eminem fan, this song deserves to be this high up on the list of most hard-core songs of all-time.  This is a pump up song from the 2002 film 8 Mile.  Some of the best rhymes of all-time, especially from a white guy.  This song may go undisputed as one of the best rap/hip hop songs of all time.  I dare you to disagree.
20. Don’t Stop Believing by Journey
Despite the fact that this song has recently been overplayed and I am now sick of it, it is so hardcore that it was put very high up on my list.  This inspirational song should have been on my original list of inspirational songs.  Anyways, Don’t Stop Believing is a classic that is always repeated and getting stuck in people’s heads.

19. Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd is definitely against authority as you can tell if you ever listen to this song.  “We don’t need no education” Can’t argue with that grammar.  Correct grammar or not, this hardcore song is one of the greatest of all time.

18. Wonderwall by Oasis
I would like to take the risk of comparing Oasis to the Beatles.  They seem to have the same rhythm and vibe.  I would have to guess that some people may mistake Wonderwall for a Beatles song.  I’m not quite sure what a wonderwall is?  Is it a person, place, thing?  That’s for the listener to decide I guess.  You must listen to this song.  I guarantee it will clear your head.

17. Sweetest Thing by U2

16. Misundaztood by P!nk
She’s a rebel!  One of the greatest female artists of all time: P!nk.  One of her most hardcore songs is Misundaztood.  She is so rebellious that she won’t even conform to spell misunderstood the right way.  The 2001 hit helps to earn her a spot in my most hardcore list and in the list of my heroes.
